Paul R. Topping, President & CEO
Paul co-founded Design
Science in 1986 and has since held the position of President & CEO. He is also the principal architect and original programmer
of the company's MathType product, and continues to provide technical leadership at the
company.
Prior to founding Design Science, Paul held technical and management positions
within a number of computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing
(CAD/CAM) companies. He specialized in user interaction and programming
language design. Paul received a Bachelor's degree in Electrical
Engineering from the University of
Southern California. Paul also did graduate work in Computer Science at USC and
the University of California at Irvine.
Bruce Virga, Executive Vice President of Sales,
Business Development and Chief Operating Officer
Bruce is an integral member of Design Science’s senior management team,
responsible for driving the worldwide sales of the company's products and
technologies, the principal representative for the company's strategic
relationships and OEM licensing business, and responsible for the efficient and
effective operation and improvement of the company's business systems.
Bruce joined Design Science in 1994 after 10 entrepreneurial years as the
co-founder and chief marketing officer of several successful start-ups. Bruce
received a Bachelor’s degree in marketing from State University of New York,
F.I.T.
Robert Miner, Vice President, Research and Development
Robert leads Design Science's research and development efforts. Located in St. Paul, Minnesota, Robert
joined Design Science when the company acquired the WebEQ product line from
Geometry Technologies in 2000. Robert oversees the development of the company's
WebEQ, MathPlayer and MathFlow product lines, has initiated research programs for adding value to electronic math content, including
math-aware searching and mathematics accessibility, and writes and speaks
extensively on the impact of MathML on technical publishing.
Prior to joining Design Science, Robert taught at the University of Oklahoma, worked at the University of
Minnesota's Geometry Center pursuing interdisciplinary research in math and
electronic communication, and later co-founded Geometry Technologies. Robert also worked on World Wide Web
Consortium (W3C) initiative to standardize
and XML markup language for mathematics, and eventually co-chaired the technical
working group that developed MathML. Robert's received his Ph.D. in
mathematics from the University of Maryland, and studied at Oxford and Universität Bern.
